The 20-year-old will join Major League Soccer (MLS) side Chicago Fire in January, following the conclusion of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Morocco.
Mbokazi played his final match for Pirates in style on Saturday, helping his team lift the Carling Knockout Cup with a 1-0 victory over Marumo Gallants at Peter Mokaba Stadium.
Relebohile Mofokeng scored the decisive goal in the first half of extra time after regulation ended goalless, securing Pirates' second trophy in just four months.
"I want to thank my teammates — we were able to win this game together," Mbokazi told SuperSport TV after the match.
"I also want to assure everyone that I won't disappoint wherever I'm going. Thank you."
Since making his debut in March last season, Mbokazi has featured in 40 games for Pirates, contributing two goals and two assists. His performances and professionalism have earned him praise from teammates and fans alike.
This Carling Knockout win adds to Pirates' MTN8 triumph in September under coach Abdelsam Ouaddou, highlighting a strong start to the 2025/26 season.
Historically, Pirates had only won the competition once since 2000 — in the 2011/12 season at Moses Mabhida Stadium, when they beat Bidvest Wits.
Mbokazi now leaves Pirates on a high, armed with domestic silverware and valuable experience, ready to make his mark in MLS and honour the promise he has made to supporters.
