Mpumi Khoza eager for league title after Orlando Pirates' MTN8 success
Orlando Pirates director Mpumi Khoza says the club's focus now shifts to the Betway Premiership following their historic fourth consecutive MTN8 title.
The Buccaneers secured their fourth consecutive MTN8 triumph with a 3-0 victory over Stellies at the Mbombela Stadium on Saturday.
There was no separating the two sides after 90 minutes but Tshepang Moremi broke the deadlock with the first goal of the game with 92 minutes on the clock.
Tshegofatso Mabasa then added a second goal with 103 minutes played, before Moremi wrapped up the result with his second goal after 110 minutes.
Stellenbosch had started the game looking for redemption for last season's final loss to Pirates, and speaking after the match, Barker felt his side had chances to win the tie.
He said in the Citizen: "Look, firstly I think we have to congratulate Orlando Pirates to win a trophy four years in a row is not easy so well done to them.
"I thought during open play, the first 90 minutes there was no real better team than in the game, we could've maybe stolen it, they could've maybe got something but I thought it was an even match."
Barker added: "I thought going into extra-time, we still looked like a team capable of going on and maybe winning but unfortunately they just sort of outclassed us, outplayed us in extra-time and once you concede the first goal, you obviously try to get back into it, you obviously get caught short in-behind and they got the second goal than it obviously became a very difficult task and they managed the rest of the game very well.
“So, 3-0 I think it's not a total true reflection of the game but in all honesty, they were the better team in extra-time and based on that they deserved to win it.”
