Pape Thiaw names Senegal squad for Brazil and Kenya friendlies

The reigning African champions will face Brazil on November 15 in London before heading to Antalya, Turkey, to take on Kenya three days later, crucial fixtures in their build-up to the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco and the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

Thiaw's selection features a compelling mix of seasoned campaigners and fresh faces, signalling the beginning of a new generation, APA News wrote.

Among the headline inclusions are 17-year-old Paris Saint-Germain academy prodigy Ibrahim Mbaye, winner of the 2024 Titi d'Or award, and Mamadou Sarr, a 20-year-old Strasbourg defender and son of former Senegal international Pape Sarr. Both receive their first senior call-ups.

"They represent the future of Senegalese football," Thiaw said, explaining the importance of integrating young talent into an already experienced squad.

The two debutants join national icons such as Kalidou Koulibaly, Idrissa Gana Gueye, and Sadio Mane, who continue to form the team's core leadership.

The return of Assane Diao from Como in Italy and Rassoul Ndiaye of Le Havre also adds depth to the midfield.

Senegal's upcoming camp will serve as their final tune-up before next year's AFCON, where they'll aim to defend their continental crown.

"The objective is clear, to build a competitive team capable of performing at the highest level," Thiaw added.

"These matches will test our readiness and give younger players valuable experience."
