Rain ends Gabba finale as India seal T20I series win over Australia

Only 4.5 overs of play were possible before the weather intervened. India's openers, Abhishek Sharma and Shubman Gill, had already given fans a glimpse of what might have been, racing to a fifty-run opening stand in style.

Sharma, dropped twice early, reached a special milestone by becoming the fastest player in T20I history to 1,000 runs in terms of balls faced. Gill, too, impressed, striking four boundaries in a single over as India looked set for a strong total before conditions deteriorated.

The Gabba was lashed by storms for over two hours before officials called off the game, leaving India to lift the series trophy after earlier wins in Hobart and Gold Coast. The result meant captain Suryakumar Yadav and head coach Gautam Gambhir extended their remarkable run to five consecutive bilateral T20I series victories since taking charge.

Speaking after the presentation, Yadav praised his side's resilience:

"The weather isn't in our control, but credit to all the boys for bouncing back after the no-result in the opener. Bumrah, Arshdeep and the spinners have been excellent. There's a lot of excitement at home after the women's team's success, and we're looking forward to what's ahead."

Australia skipper Mitchell Marsh congratulated India and took the positives from the series:

"I can't remember the last time we played without rain. Congrats to India on the win. There are a lot of learnings for us, especially in terms of flexibility, and we'll be back to full strength for the World Cup."

Abhishek Sharma was named Player of the Series for his explosive batting displays throughout the tour. Reflecting on his achievement, he said:

"I've been waiting for this tour. The pitches have been great for batting. My captain and coach have given me the freedom to express myself, and it's been a dream to perform. Playing in the T20 World Cup would be an amazing moment, I'll make sure I'm ready."

Despite the anticlimactic finish, India's dominance across the series underlined their growing strength and confidence heading into next year's T20 World Cup, while Australia will look to regroup before their home summer continues.
