Real Madrid boss Jose Mourinho backs Endrick after Roma masterclass

The 20-year-old came off the bench early in the second half to replace Arda Guler and quickly made his presence felt. His powerful header brought Madrid level at 3-3, giving his team fresh momentum in a thrilling encounter at the Stadio Olimpico.

There is growing optimism within the club that Endrick is finally ready to fulfil his potential after a frustrating period affected by injuries and limited playing time.

His performance offered a reminder of the qualities that have made him such an exciting prospect. Endrick completed two successful dribbles, used his acceleration to trouble Roma's defence and showed his ability to make an immediate impact in the final third.

The display also appeared to justify Jose Mourinho's decision to reject a summer loan move that would have taken the Brazilian to Roma.

"When Roma asked for his loan in the summer, I said it was impossible. I know this boy's abilities," Mourinho explained after the match.

The Portuguese coach clearly believes Endrick has the talent to make a difference at the highest level, although finding regular opportunities for the youngster will be the next challenge.

Endrick, meanwhile, has made it clear that he trusts his manager and remains determined to contribute whenever he is called upon.

"I was talking to God. If I have to play, Mou will put me on, and if not, he won't. He will do what is best for me. I will be there to help however I can," he said.

That attitude could prove important as the Brazilian looks to establish himself at Madrid.

One interesting aspect of his appearance against Roma was his position. Mourinho introduced Endrick on the right wing, a role in which he has rarely featured.

The manager reportedly views him as a potentially effective option on that flank rather than using him exclusively as a centre-forward.

That flexibility could help Madrid accommodate Endrick alongside fellow youngster Espi, reducing the need for the two players to compete directly for the same position.

The challenge for Endrick is to turn this promising performance into consistent contributions. If he can maintain that level, he could become a more important part of Madrid's plans.

His next opportunity to make an impression could come when Madrid host Sevilla at the Santiago Bernabeu on Sunday.
