Mikel Arteta determined to bring Viktor Gyokeres to Arsenal
Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has issued a firm deadline for the club to sign of a new striker, with Sporting Lisbon's Viktor Gyokeres identified as the "outstanding candidate".
Arsenal officials held talks with Eze's representatives on Saturday, with manager Mikel Arteta identifying the creative midfielder as a key target to add depth and flair to his squad. However, no direct negotiations have begun between Arsenal and Crystal Palace.
Tottenham are also firmly in the race, maintaining a longstanding interest in Eze. New manager Thomas Frank is reportedly keen to make the 27-year-old a statement signing.
Spurs are monitoring the situation closely and may act, depending on Palace's stance regarding a fee below the 67.5-million-pound release clause.
Crystal Palace remain resolute that Eze will only leave if that clause is met. With his contract running until 2027, the club is reluctant to offer discounts, fearing his value could decline if he stays another season.
Eze, who was released by Arsenal at 13, celebrated his 27th birthday on Sunday and is open to joining either north London club if a deal is agreed.
He is enjoying excellent form, having scored the winner in May's FA Cup final - securing Palace's first major trophy - and netting his maiden England goal against Latvia in March.
