Report: Bayern Munich chase Nico Williams in blockbuster transfer move

The Bundesliga giants have been tracking the 22-year-old Spaniard, whose dazzling performances have made him one of Europe's most coveted talents.

The Bavarians first considered Williams in the spring of 2024 but had doubts about his readiness for a big move. Those reservations vanished after his standout displays at the 2024 European Championship, where he shone for Spain.

Bayern's honorary president Uli Hoeness was particularly impressed, having scouted Williams during Spain's semi-final clash against France in Munich. "He's an explosive player with huge potential," Hoeness reportedly said, praising the winger's pace and flair.

Athletic Club, however, remain confident that Williams will stay and star for them in the 2025-26 Champions League campaign.

The Basque outfit have downplayed speculation about a 60 million euro release clause, insisting no such figure has been publicly confirmed. "We expect Nico to be with us next season," a club spokesperson said, signaling their determination to keep their homegrown star.

Despite Athletic's stance, Bayern's interest remains strong. The club see him as a key piece to bolster their attack, though his reported salary demands of at least 10 million euros per year could complicate negotiations. Bayern face competition from Arsenal, who have also been linked with the winger, as noted in a March 2025 X post by @cfbayern.

Williams' blend of speed, skill, and versatility has made him a prime target, and Bayern's renewed push signals their ambition to reclaim dominance in Europe. Whether Athletic can hold firm remains to be seen, but the race for Williams' signature is heating up.
