Report: Bruno Fernandes nears shock Man Utd exit

The Red Devils have endured a torrid 2024/25 campaign, finishing a disappointing 15th in the Premier League despite a final-day victory over Aston Villa. Their hopes of a healthier transfer budget were dashed earlier this month when they fell 1-0 to Tottenham in the Europa League final, missing out on Champions League qualification.

With financial constraints looming, rumours have swirled that Manchester United may need to offload key players to fund a squad rebuild. Fernandes, the club's talismanic captain, has emerged as a prime target for Al-Hilal, who are ready to flex their financial muscle.

According to Spanish outlet Fichajes, Fernandes is "very close" to leaving Old Trafford, with Al-Hilal "willing to go all out to close the deal." Reports indicate the Saudi club have tabled an offer of 95 million euros for the Portuguese star, while his representatives are said to be seriously considering the proposal.

Al-Hilal have also dangled a jaw-dropping contract, promising Fernandes 25 million euros net per season, a figure that dwarfs what Manchester United can offer.

The clock is ticking for Al-Hilal, who are gearing up to represent Saudi Arabia at the upcoming Club World Cup.

Sky Sports reporter Kaveh Solhekol highlighted the urgency, stating, "The clock is ticking for Al-Hilal because they are playing in the Club World Cup. They don't have a head coach, they've been trying to sign Ronaldo, they've been trying to sign Bruno Fernandes, they're trying to get Simone Inzaghi out of Inter. There is a lot going on at Hilal because they are flying the flag for Saudi Arabia."

Despite the lucrative offer, optimism remains at Manchester United. Manager Ruben Amorim has struck a confident tone about Fernandes' future.

Sky Sports' Kaveh Solhekol observed, "Looking at Ruben Amorim today, I think it's pretty clear and final that Bruno Fernandes is going to stay. You could tell he's spoken to Bruno Fernandes and been told by him: 'I've got this incredible offer, it's like I've won Euro Millions, 200 million pounds over three years. This is life-changing money, boss, but you know I'm not motivated by money. I love football, I love Manchester United.'"

Solhekol added, "I think he's sat down and spoken to Ruben Amorim and he's told him he is an integral part of the rebuild at Manchester United. I think he's happy to stay."

However, Solhekol cautioned, "Never say never in the transfer market, the window hasn't even opened yet. Anything could eventually happen."

Manchester United have yet to comment officially, but the coming days will be crucial as Fernandes weighs his future. Will the lure of a transformative deal sway him, or will his love for the Red Devils keep him at Old Trafford? Football fans are on the edge of their seats.
