Report: Chelsea step up pursuit of Jamie Gittens and Mohammed Kudus

The 20-year-old England U21 international, a right-footed left-winger, fits Maresca's tactical vision of an inverted wide player to cut inside and ease the creative burden on Cole Palmer.

Chelsea have already agreed personal terms with Gittens but saw their opening 42-million-pound bid rejected by Dortmund, who are holding out for 50 million.

An improved offer from the Blues is expected soon. Should talks collapse, Lyon's Malick Fofana has emerged as a potential alternative.

Maresca is also keen to add a versatile forward to cope with the increased demands of European football. While Chelsea have ruled out a move for Jadon Sancho, they remain in discussions with West Ham over Ghana international Mohammed Kudus. Kudus, who joined the Hammers in 2023, struggled last season but is pushing for a move.

Chelsea made an initial approach and offered player-swap deals, but West Ham are insisting on a straight sale. His 85-million-pound release clause becomes active for Premier League clubs during the first 10 days of July.

Manchester United, Newcastle, and another unnamed top-flight side are also monitoring the situation.
