Report: Milos Kerkez seals Liverpool move as Marc Guehi deal looms
Liverpool have reportedly secured their fifth signing of a bustling summer transfer window, with Bournemouth's dynamic left-back Milos Kerkez set to join for 40 million pounds.
Sporting director Sebastian Kehl has moved to quash rumours of an immediate deal with Bayern but left the door ajar for a potential summer exit.
Speaking to Sport1, Kehl dismissed claims of ongoing talks with Bayern's board member for sport, Max Eberl, over Gittens' future. "I'm not currently in contact with Max," Kehl said, while acknowledging their strong professional bond.
"We know each other and value one another, but at the moment, there's nothing more to say on the matter."
Dortmund's resolve was tested earlier in June when Chelsea launched an ambitious bid to secure Gittens before the FIFA Club World Cup.
The Premier League giants reportedly tabled a 55 million euros offer, which Dortmund swiftly rejected, insisting on a fee closer to 65 million euros including bonuses. Despite agreeing personal terms with Chelsea on a seven-year deal worth 6.5 million euros annually, Gittens remained with Dortmund for the tournament, where he has seen just 13 minutes of action across two matches.
Kehl has hinted that Gittens' long-term future at Dortmund remains uncertain, with a summer move looking increasingly likely. "I understand the impatience, that people are hoping for updates every day," Kehl said. "We still have a bit of time. We're working on some departures and hoping to make progress there in the coming days. We're pushing hard."
Bayern's interest, meanwhile, has intensified as they seek a replacement for Leroy Sane, who rejected a new contract and joined Galatasaray.
Sources indicate Bayern have been monitoring Gittens closely, with manager Vincent Kompany and Eberl reportedly "raving" about the Englishman's potential. A recent post on X from @iMiaSanMia claimed Eberl has Gittens on his shortlist and is in contact with the player's camp, though Dortmund's valuation of over 60 million euros could spark a bidding war.
Gittens, who joined Dortmund from Manchester City's academy in 2020, has made 107 appearances for the Black and Yellows, scoring 17 goals. His explosive dribbling and versatility have drawn comparisons to former Dortmund star Jadon Sancho, but his limited role under new head coach Niko Kovac has fuelled speculation about his next move.
Dortmund's fourth-placed finish in the Bundesliga has secured UEFA Champions League football for next season, potentially boosting Gittens' release clause to 60 million euros. However, Kehl's comments suggest the club are bracing for offers, with Arsenal and Barcelona also reportedly in the race.
As the transfer window heats up, Dortmund fans will be watching anxiously to see if their young star stays or becomes the latest English talent to shine elsewhere. For now, Kehl's focus remains on navigating the market with precision, ensuring Dortmund emerge stronger regardless of Gittens' decision.
