The Red Devils are reshaping their attack under manager Ruben Amorim, and offloading Hojlund could pave the way for new additions.
United have already secured Matheus Cunha to bolster their forward line and remain linked with Brentford's Bryan Mbeumo.
The club are eager to add a proven goalscorer, and selling Hojlund, who has struggled for consistency, would provide funds to accelerate their transfer plans. The 22-year-old cost United 64 million pounds from Atalanta in 2023 but managed just four Premier League goals in the 2024-25 season, down from ten the previous year.
Italian outlet Gazzetta dello Sport reported that Inter Milan see Hojlund as a key target to strengthen their attack. "He is ahead of everyone in the club's preferences for the attack of the future," said journalist Filippo Conticello.
Inter's assistant manager, Cristian Chivu, believes Hojlund's international experience makes him an ideal fit to complement strikers Lautaro Martinez and Marcus Thuram, rather than serving as a backup.
Hojlund, who scored nine Serie A goals for Atalanta before joining United, has expressed enthusiasm for a potential move to Inter, per Conticello.
However, while Inter prefer a loan deal with an option to buy, United are holding firm for a permanent transfer, valuing the Dane at around 45 million euros.
Meanwhile, Corriere dello Sport stated that United have decided to keep Joshua Zirkzee, viewing the 24-year-old Dutch striker as central to Amorim's plans.
Despite scoring only three Premier League goals in his debut season, Zirkzee's versatility and fit in Amorim's 3-4-2-1 system have earned him a reprieve. "United consider Zirkzee's presence fundamental," the outlet noted.
Hojlund's earlier stint in Serie A with Atalanta showcased his all-around play, but his goal-scoring touch has faded at United. His struggles, coupled with missed opportunities in key moments, have seen him fall behind Zirkzee in the pecking order.
A return to Italy could reignite Hojlund's career, while United's focus on rebuilding their attack signals an ambitious push to restore their Premier League dominance.
