Report: Tottenham launch ambitious raid for Aston Villa's Morgan Rogers

The North Londoners are pushing hard to secure the 23-year-old England international, who has emerged as one of the Premier League's brightest talents.

Rogers enjoyed a stellar breakout season in 2024/25, scoring eight goals and providing ten assists in the Premier League for Villa, earning him the PFA Young Player of the Year award. "I'm happy here. I love nothing more than just coming out on the pitch and playing football," Rogers said recently, responding to transfer speculation in an interview with The Times.

Spurs' interest in Rogers intensified after they missed out on Crystal Palace's Eberechi Eze, who joined rivals Arsenal in a dramatic 68-million-pound deal. Posts on X from transfer expert Fabrizio Romano indicate that City are resisting bids for the Brazilian winger, with Spurs' hopes hinging on City securing Real Madrid's Rodrygo, a scenario described as "hypothetical" by The Athletic's David Ornstein. "City insist they are not looking to sell Savinho," Ornstein said, suggesting the player is likely to stay at the Etihad Stadium.

With James Maddison sidelined by a serious knee injury and Son Heung-Min having departed for LAFC, Spurs are under pressure to land a creative force. Manager Thomas Frank has praised the versatility of his squad but emphasized the need for reinforcements, saying after a recent 2-0 win over Manchester City, "We need players who can step up and create in key moments."

Villa's manager Unai Emery has been vocal about Rogers' importance, previously stating, "With how football is changing, I appreciate players being versatile, playing different positions. Morgan Rogers is clearly one of them." Despite Villa's firm stance, the financial pressures of PSR could force their hand if Spurs table a significant bid, potentially exceeding 100 million pounds.

As the transfer deadline looms, Tottenham are accelerating their efforts to secure Rogers, hoping to capitalize on Villa's financial constraints.
