Richards Bay edge TS Galaxy as Magesi boost Betway Premiership survival hopes

Richards Bay maintained their unbeaten run with a 1-0 win away to TS Galaxy in the Betway Premiership on Sunday to strengthen their push for a top eight finish.

Sanele Barns scored the only goal of the game at Mbombela Stadium after 42 minutes, with a clinical finish after connecting to a cutback inside the penalty area from Thabiso Gumede.

The Natal Rich Boyz recently beat Stellenbosch 2-1 and followed that up with a 2-2 draw at home against league title chasing Orlando Pirates, before seeing off the Rockets.

The result saw Richards Bay end the evening in 10th place on the standings with 30 points from 25 games, one point behind ninth-placed Stellies and four adrift of Golden Arrows in eighth place.

Galaxy are down in 12th place with 25 points from 25 games.

Magesi picked up a massive three points in their bid for Betway Premiership survival with a 5-2 win over Durban City in a thrilling encounter at the Seshego Stadium on Sunday.

Mcedi Vandala opened the scoring for Magesi after just eight minutes, only for Durban to draw level through Jean Lwamba just three minutes later.

Godfrey Mashigo restored the Mswenko Boys' lead another two minutes later and Lehlegonolo Mokone added a third with 18 minutes on the clock.

Lwamba was on target again as he reduced the deficit after 26 minutes, but Magesi added two further goals in the second half, with Kgothatso Mariba (64') and Mcedi Vandala (77') both also finding the back of the net.

The result lifted the club from the bottom of the standings to 14th place with 20 points from 25 games, level with Marumo Gallants in 15th and one clear of 16th placed Orbit College.

City are in sixth place with 35 points from 25 games.
