Sekhukhune United defender Ryan Baartman shockingly retires at 28

According to iDiski Times, the player was 'advised was advised to end his professional career as the back injury would persist and could cause further complications in the future, should he continue playing.'

Baartman reportedly suffered a spinal injury during a training session with Sekhukhune and had to undergo surgery to attempt to correct the issue, however, it seems the injury has forced the promising defender into an early retirement.

He made 11 appearances for Babina Noko, starting ten of them, including five full matches in successive CAF Confederation Cup campaigns, playing the full 90 minutes in a 2-0 league win over Richards Bay.

The club is yet to issue an official statement on the former All Stars FC, Cape Umoya United, Steenberg FC and Chippa United centre-back's retirement.
