Cummins was diagnosed with lumbar bone stress last August and missed the majority of the home Ashes series, playing in just one Test. He was superb, taking six wickets in Adelaide to help the Baggy Greens retain the vaunted urn.
Cricket Australia has understandably been very cautious with their talismanic captain and he would go on to miss the T20 World Cup as well. CA is protecting their asset who stands to lead in a bumper 2026/2027 season where he could feature in as many as 20 Tests.
But now, Cummins took to Instagram to reveal he is due to fly back to India on Friday, and was aiming to play on 25 April against Rajasthan Royals in Jaipur.
Aside from this family holiday, Cummins has been in India helping the Sunrisers leadership, which has seen Ishan Kishan step into the captain's role.
"We're fortunate enough that Pat has been around the group and he's been able to have conversations with Ishan about his captaincy style," head coach Daniel Vettori said earlier in the tournament.
