T20 World Cup: India unleash 256-run storm to rout Zimbabwe

After winning the toss and choosing to field, Zimbabwe were immediately put under pressure. Sanju Samson started brightly with 24 from 15 balls, setting the tone in the early overs. Abhishek Sharma then took control, striking a powerful 55 off 30 deliveries. India raced to 80 for 1 in the powerplay, laying the foundation for a massive total.

Ishan Kishan maintained the tempo with 38 off 24 balls, while captain Suryakumar Yadav added a rapid 33 from just 13 deliveries. The final overs proved brutal for the Zimbabwe bowlers. Hardik Pandya smashed an unbeaten 50 off 23 balls, and Tilak Varma finished not out on 44 from only 16 deliveries. Their late assault produced 84 runs in the last five overs and took India to their highest-ever T20 World Cup total, featuring 17 sixes.

Zimbabwe's bowlers struggled throughout. Richard Ngarava conceded 62 runs in his four overs, and none of the attack managed to stem the flow as India scored at will.

Chasing 257 was always going to demand something special. Brian Bennett fought hard for his unbeaten 97 off 59 balls, showing composure and power, but he lacked sustained support. Tadiwanashe Marumani made 20 and Sikandar Raza contributed 31, yet regular wickets stalled the innings.

Arshdeep Singh led India's bowling effort superbly, taking 3 for 24 in four overs, including two wickets in successive deliveries. Varun Chakravarthy and Axar Patel kept things tight, while Shivam Dube chipped in with a wicket.

Zimbabwe closed on 184 for 6, well short of the target. It was a clinical performance from India, whose explosive batting and disciplined bowling reinforced their status as serious title contenders.
