'The door is open to everyone' - Klopp ready to cut Germany squad after Greece draw

Klopp used the current four-match international programme to assess a large group of players, selecting two different squads of 22 during the period.

However, that approach will change when Germany return for their final UEFA Nations League fixtures in November.

"We will calmly analyse the two weeks and then in five weeks we have two international matches again with a reduced squad," Klopp said after the draw with Greece.

"Of course, we won't be going there with 44 players. The door is open to everyone. If someone is not called up, they know it's not because they're not good enough, but because we have to stop at 23 or 24 players."

Klopp was encouraged by Germany's display despite their failure to find a winning goal against a Greece side currently leading the group with eight points.

The former Liverpool manager admitted he was impressed by what he saw from his players.

"I'm very, very, very impressed with the team. If anything, I'm pleasantly surprised rather than disappointed. I wouldn't have believed we were capable of playing a first half like that," he said.

"The boys put in an incredible performance - top-notch in every respect, except for the fact that we didn't convert our chances into goals or spot a better-positioned teammate in the final third."

Germany did lose some of their attacking clarity after the hour mark, but Klopp put that down partly to the demands of the schedule.

"We got a bit unsettled around the 60-minute mark, so our movements lost some of their clarity. But we played just three days ago, it's tough to maintain that kind of pace for the full 90 minutes."

Klopp was also pleased with Germany's counter-pressing, although he acknowledged the risks involved when the system breaks down.

"Our counter-pressing worked outstandingly well 90% of the time. The problem is, during that other 10% when it doesn't work, things can get a bit complicated," the 59-year-old said.

Germany will now break up for the next month before Klopp names a smaller squad for their final two Nations League matches against Serbia on 13 November and the Netherlands on 16 November.
