'They make it pretty simple for me' - Jonathan David thriving after Atletico Madrid switch

The Canadian striker has scored in all three of his La Liga appearances since joining Atletico on a season-long loan from Juventus, finding the net against Real Sociedad, Osasuna and Real Madrid.

His form continued during the international break as David scored the only goal in Canada's 1-0 friendly win over Chile, taking his international tally to 43 goals.

Asked what had sparked his impressive start, David admitted he could not pinpoint one specific reason.

"Maybe it's a breath of fresh air," he said. "Maybe it helps that it's a bit of a change of environment."

The 26-year-old has quickly settled into Diego Simeone's side and believes the quality around him has made his job easier.

"I play with a lot of players that have that quality to find the last pass," David said. "They make it pretty simple for me, to be honest. All I have to do is finish."

David's Atletico move came after a difficult campaign at Juventus, where he scored eight goals in 46 competitive appearances.

His arrival in Madrid followed an impressive World Cup hat-trick against Qatar in Vancouver, which helped raise his profile ahead of the new season.

Canada head coach Jesse Marsch believes David's ability to combine goalscoring with hard work makes him an ideal fit for Simeone's team.

Marsch revealed he had spoken to Simeone about the striker before the move was completed.

"If you want an attacking player that can score goals, have a lot of quality, and also work for the team and give everything he has to the team, I can't think of a better striker than Jonathan David," Marsch said.

David has already shown that willingness to put the team first. During Atletico's 4-0 win over Osasuna, he chose to toe-poke the ball across the box for Lee Kang-in rather than shoot himself from a central position.

For now, the move to Madrid is delivering exactly what David needed, with goals, confidence and a strong start alongside Atletico's attacking players.

Atletico's next La Liga match is away to Deportivo Alaves at Mendizorrotza on 10 October.
