'This final matters so much to us' - Joshua Kimmich leads Bayern charge for Pokal Cup glory

The Belgian manager admitted he is excited about leading Bayern into his first German cup final and believes winning the competition would be another special moment in the club's history.

"I've never been in a German cup final before, but I've experienced other finals," Kompany said during his pre-match press conference.

"When we won the FA Cup with Manchester City, the club had waited 40 years for that trophy. These moments always become part of history. Stuttgart experienced that feeling last season.

"Since the first day of this campaign, everyone at Bayern has spoken about winning this cup again. That shows how important the competition is to this club. We want to bring it back to Munich."

Kompany also backed goalkeeper Jonas Urbig to handle the pressure after confirming he will start in place of the injured Manuel Neuer.

The Bayern boss said the young goalkeeper had already shown his quality in major matches this season.

"We've always trusted our goalkeepers," Kompany explained. "Jonas has already faced Stuttgart twice and we had no doubts about him when he played against Leverkusen in the Champions League.

"The pressure should not only be on him. Players like Joshua Kimmich and myself also carry responsibility because we have experience in these situations."

Bayern captain Kimmich echoed his manager's confidence and insisted the squad will fight for every ball as they aim to win the club's first DFB-Pokal title since 2020.

"We'll give everything to win this match," Kimmich said. "People outside football only look at trophies, but when you're part of the team every day, you also see the progress we've made over the years.

"The atmosphere in training has been very positive and the players enjoy working together. That's very important for development.

"Of course, when you look back in ten years, you want to see as many titles as possible beside your name. That's why this final matters so much to us."
