Tottenham Hospur star Yves Bissouma stretchered off during Mali's World Cup qualifier

The 29-year-old came on as a 66th minute substitute for The Eagles but had to be substituted just six minutes later after a challenge from the opposition in their 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifier clash.

Bissouma had not played a match since suffering a knee injury at the end of the 2024/25 season and this new injury could jeopardise his future with his contract with Spurs set to end in nine months.

The Mali star had recently been assured by club manager Thomas Frank that he would be considered for a return to the senior team for the upcoming Premier League clash against Aston Villa on Sunday.

However, general reports indicate fears of a serious ankle injury that may keep the midfielder out for months but no official updates of severity of the injury have been confirmed.

He was controversially left out of Frank's UEFA Super Cup squad at the beginning of the season due to reported 'repeated lateness' and also omitted from the Champions League squad for the league phase.

The former Brighton and Hove Albion star has featured in 100 matches for the North London side, scoring twice.
