Trabzonspor president drops hint on Andre Onana's future

Onana joined the Turkish Super Lig side on loan from United for the 2025/26 season and has already begun to make his presence felt with a string of strong performances between the posts.

His assured displays have impressed both fans and the club's management, raising questions about whether the deal could become long-term.

Speaking to 61 Saat.com, Dogan admitted that while Onana's arrival has been a major boost for the team, turning the move into a permanent transfer would be financially challenging.

"Onana has just joined us, and we and the technical team are pleased," Dogan told the outlet, as quoted by United in Focus.

"He's a player who cost his team €65 million, including bonuses. It's impossible for Trabzonspor to make a transfer under those circumstances.

"If the technical staff is happy, we'll see what we can do at the end of the year."

Onana's loan spell in Turkey offers him a fresh start after a turbulent spell at Manchester United, where he endured criticism during his debut season at Old Trafford.

The former Ajax and Inter Milan star appears to have regained his confidence, showing glimpses of the form that once made him one of Europe's most sought-after goalkeepers.

While Trabzonspor's hopes of signing him permanently remain uncertain, Dogan's comments suggest the club could explore their options if the 28-year-old continues to shine throughout the campaign.
