UCL: Barcelona edge Frankfurt, Atletico battle past PSV in five-goal thriller

Barcelona 2-1 Eintracht Frankfurt

Barcelona secured a vital Champions League victory at the Spotify Camp Nou, overcoming a resilient Eintracht Frankfurt side with a 2-1 comeback.

The visitors stunned the home crowd by taking a first-half lead, as Ansgar Knauff capitalised on a swift counter-attack in the 20th minute.

Hansi Flick's side struggled to break down the German defence before the break, despite dominating possession. However, the introduction of substitute Marcus Rashford in the second half proved instrumental.

Defender Jules Kounde emerged as the unlikely hero, heading home a quickfire brace in the 50th and 53rd minutes to completely overturn the deficit. The win relieves pressure on Barcelona and bolsters their hopes of automatic qualification.

"It wasn't an easy match, as Eintracht showed themselves to be a very dynamic and fast team, and they also defended well. I'm proud because we adjusted our approach at half-time and it worked. We adapted to the situation, and I want to congratulate my coaching staff for the work they've done," said Flick.

PSV 2-3 Atletico Madrid

Atletico Madrid edged out PSV Eindhoven in a five-goal thriller at the Philips Stadion, securing a hard-fought 3-2 away win.

PSV started brightly, taking the lead through Guus Til in the 10th minute. However, Atletico capitalised on a defensive error late in the first half, with Julian Alvarez converting to equalise in the 37th minute.

Diego Simeone's men took control early in the second half with two quick goals. David Hancko scored from a rebound in the 52nd minute, swiftly followed by a clinical header from Alexander Sorloth in the 56th.

PSV substitute Ricardo Pepi pulled a goal back in the 85th minute to set up a tense finish, but Atletico held on for a crucial three points.

"It's been a long time since I've felt so fulfilled, enjoying what I saw, I liked it," said Simeone.

“PSV could have made it 2-0 but the team didn't back down, every time the goalkeeper had the ball, we had a plan… I loved the team.”
