Upbeat Durban City set to tackle ruthless log leader Mamelodi Sundowns

The Citizens confidently come into the fixture on the back of a hard fought 1-0 win against lower division side Casric Stars in a Nedbank Cup semi-final, and currently occupy fifth position on the table, just two points behind third placed AmaZulu.

A victory against the Chloorkop based outfit could see City find themselves in the CAF Confederation Cup spot with just seven rounds of fixtures remaining in the league.

Meanwhile, Masandawana are on a nine-match winning streak in the 2025/26 Betway Premiership, a new Premier Soccer League (PSL) all-time record during a single season.

As a result, the defending league champions sit two points clear of Orlando Pirates at the top of the log following the recent 4-1 win against Chippa United.

"If we want to be champions, we need to make a good series of victories in the matches we still have," said Cardoso to reporters ahead of the fixture.

"There will be no space for many points dropped. So, focus is now the Durban match. We must add more victories to this nine-win run."

The Tshwane giants won the only previous fixture between the two teams 3-1, despite having fallen behind to an early Joslin Kamatuka header in that encounter at Loftus Versfeld Stadium last September.

Interim City coach Pitso Dladla will be facing Sundowns for the first time, with Gavin Hunt having been at the helm during the first-round league encounter.

Kick-off is at 17h30.
