Vincent Kompany looks for positive after Union Berlin draw

Bayern dropped two points in the Bundesliga title race after they slipped to a 1-1 draw against Union Berlin but manager Vincent Kompany did not criticise his players after the disappointing result

On the contrary, he believes they deserved to claim all three points after Leroy Sane's 75th minutes strike was cancelled out by Benedict Hollerbach's 83rd minute equaliser.

"It was a game of two stories. There's the performance and there's the result. When we don't take three points, we're disappointed with the result, that's very simple," Kompany said.

"But I've been in football long enough to know that this wasn't a bad performance away from home. We took away the danger for a very long time.

"We were patient, in the second half we increased the danger and were more precise. I would've been very happy with the performance and the result [if it had stayed 1-0], but in the end credit to the opponent, they fought, had one moment and took it to their advantage."

Elsewhere in the Bundesliga on Saturday, RB Leipzig beat Borussia Dortmund 2-0 thanks to goals from Xavi Simons (18') and Lois Openda (48'), while Mainz were able to hang on for a 2-2 draw against SC Freiburg despite being reduced to 10 men.

FC St Pauli claimed a 1-0 win over Hoffenheim after Noah Weishaupt scored the only goal of the game in the 51st minute and Phillip Tietz 53rd minute strike was enough to hand Augsburg a 1-0 victory over Wolfsburg.

The most excitement could be found in the clash between Borussia Monchengladbach and Werder Bremen, where an Alassane Piea hattrick helped the latter to a 4-2 over Werder, even though they finished the game with 10 men after Tim Kleindienst was sent off in the 92nd minute.
