Tom Saintfiet says Mali must improve after making AFCON last 16 without winning a game
Mali coach Tom Saintfiet admits it feels strange to progress to the knockout round of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations without registering a win.

Tshepang Moremi opened the scoring at Stade de Marrakech after just seven minutes, but the Warriors were back in the tie when Tawanda Maswanhise netted a brilliant individual strike with 19 minutes on the clock.
Lyle Foster restored Sout Africa's lead five minutes into the second half before an Aubrey Modiba (73') own-goal.
But Oswin Appollis was successful from the spot on 82 minutes to seal the win and Bafana's place in the last 16 as runners-up behind group winners Egypt.
Speaking after the game, Broos told SABC Sport that he used the half-time team talk to address mistakes from the first half, while also making a personnel change by replacing an ineffective Sphephelo Sithole with Bathusi Aubaas.
He said: "We started very well the game, we had chances and we scored so everything was okay.
"Then, suddenly, we fell asleep again and conceded a goal to go to halftime 1-1. So, we talked to the players and said, 'guys, come on, just do what you, like how you started the game.'"
Broos added: "Defensively [Sithole] was okay, but once he had the ball, he lost many balls. Also, back-passes, every time they gave the ball to the opponents. With Bathusi, it was much better in the second half. We had control of the ball, and the passing was better."
The Bafana coach explained that his side need to work on their game-management after giving away unnecessary goals, saying: "At 2-1 you start making mistakes again. Many times we lost possession of the ball.
"And still we wanted to score the fourth? Why? Just keep the ball in the team! We played the game Zimbabwe wanted—losing the ball and the deep ball. We were in difficulties, and that has to stop. We have to work on it."
Bafana will now face the runners-up from Group F in the round of 16, which could be one of Ivory Coast, Cameroon or Mozambique.
