Wolves fixtures: Early tests and familiar foes offer chance to build momentum

With hopes of a more stable year ahead, the opening five fixtures provide a mix of major challenges and opportunities.

Wolves fixtures 2025:

August 16: Wolves v Manchester City

August 23: Bournemouth v Wolves

August 30: Wolves v Everton

September 13: Newcastle v Wolves

September 20: Wolves v Leeds

The season begins at Molineux on August 16 against Manchester City - a tough start, but one Wolves will approach with belief after stunning City 2-1 in this fixture last season. It's a rare opportunity to make an early statement in front of a home crowd.

On August 23, Wolves travel to Bournemouth, a fixture that's historically been tightly contested. Both sides are likely to see this as a winnable game, and Wolves will be keen to take something from their first away trip.

Everton visit Molineux on August 30 in what could be an early six-pointer. Wolves have had the edge in recent meetings, including a convincing 3-0 home win in 2023, and will be looking to continue that trend.

The following fixture, away at Newcastle on September 13, represents one of the toughest tests. Wolves haven't won at St. James' Park since 2021 but have managed several draws.

The first five wraps up on September 20 at home to Leeds, a high-energy newly promoted side. A key chance for three points.

Meanwhile, the club has refreshed its squad with several key signings. Fer Lopez from Celta Vigo, Jorgen Strand Larsen on a permanent move, David Moller Wolfe, and Jhon Arias bolster the attack and flank options. Tying down Strand Larsen is a big boost for the club as he scored 14 goals last season.

However, the departures of Matheus Cunha to Manchester United and Rayan Ait-Nouri to Manchester City are significant blows to the club's prospects. Number 10 Cunha was Wolves' top scorer with 15 goals and made the third-most assists (6). Ait-Nouri made the most assists (7) and scored the third-most goals (4) despite being a left-sided defender.

With several newly promoted clubs tipped among relegation favorites and Wolves themselves in the danger zone in many predictions, the opening fixtures carry real significance.

Early results will be critical - survive or thrive without a good start remains the pressing question.

Looking ahead to the new campaign, Pereira emphasised the need for togetherness and evolution.

"I want to build a team that fights for every ball, that plays as a unit. That takes time, but with work and ambition, we will get there," said the Wolves boss.
