Jon Rahm on Sergio Garcia's Ryder Cup snub: 'I'm always going to root for him'
Jon Rahm has shared his thoughts on the absence of Ryder Cup stalwart Sergio Garcia from this year's European team.
The American has been part of two successful Ryder Cup campaigns and gathered eight points over the three tournaments. His success and brash attitude earned him the moniker “Captain America”, but that wasn’t enough to earn a wildcard pick from team captain Keegan Bradley this year.
Speaking to the press after his T50 finish at the recent Irish Open, Reed revealed he’d be supporting Team USA, but not actually watching.
"I'll definitely be rooting for the boys, but it's one of those things that I don't watch golf when I'm at home," said the 2018 Masters winner.
"I play so much. Because I'm always out practicing and grinding. If I start watching golf, I start turning the mindset on to analyse and to do all that.'
"I realised that when I had my two little ones, I mean there's life outside of golf. So, when I'm not practicing or playing , I'm home being a dad, being a husband, being a father and all that. Just having a good time rather than trying to be so tuned in to golf and watching other golfers play."
Playing on the LIV Golf tour and not being eligible for Ryder Cup rankings points, Reed was hoping to be selected by captain Keegan Bradley. But he admitted that it would have been a surprise to be going to Bethpage.
"Yeah, I mean, I was hoping," continued the 35-year-old.
"I knew it was going to be an outside shot just because of not being able to get points and things like that, just being on LIV.
"But honestly, I felt like the game's been really good until this week. I feel like this week has not been reflective really of how I've been playing, how I've been hitting the ball. I've been hitting the ball great."
