Shane Lowry and Sepp Straka share lead after 54 holes at Truist Championship

The European duo will head into Sunday's final round at 14-under-par, three shots clear of the field.

Lowry, the 2019 Open Champion, carded a three-under 67 at the Philadelphia Cricket Club, mixing five birdies with two bogeys for a 196 total.

"It's great to see the way the conditions come into it today," Lowry said. "It was very tough today in those winds, particularly tough to hole putts."

The Irishman is eyeing his first PGA Tour win since teaming up with Rory McIlroy to win last year's Zurich Classic.

"Keep knocking on the door and eventually you'll go through it," he said.

Straka also collected five birdies but made just one bogey on his way to a four-under 66 in blustery conditions.

The bright, windy weather presented a fresh challenge after earlier rain, shaking up conditions considerably.

"It's fun to see three different ways in our first three days playing here," Straka said. "Having to try to pick clubs was a lot tougher today than yesterday.

American Keith Mitchell, who began the day with a one-shot lead, slipped down the leaderboard after a one-over 71. He's now tied for third at 11-under with Justin Thomas, who closed strong with a four-under 66, highlighted by a clutch birdie putt on the 18th.

Japan's Hideki Matsuyama surged into fifth with the round of the day - a dazzling seven-under 63 that featured nine birdies and moved him to 10-under overall.

McIlroy, who won the Masters to complete the career Grand Slam, sits in a five-way tie for sixth at eight-under 202. He made an early move with three birdies in the first six holes before a double bogey at the seventh and a bogey at the eighth halted his momentum. He added one more birdie at the 10th for a one-under 69.

England's Justin Rose, runner-up to McIlroy at Augusta, withdrew before the third round due to illness, noting on social media that he was focused on recovering ahead of the PGA Championship.

This year's Truist Championship was relocated from its traditional home at Quail Hollow in Charlotte, North Carolina, as the course prepares to host next week's 107th PGA Championship - a venue where McIlroy has claimed four PGA Tour titles.
