Cameron Young claims first PGA Tour victory with dominant Wyndham Championship win

It was a breakthrough win for Young, who had finished runner-up seven times, including at the 2022 British Open at St. Andrews.

Starting the day with a five-stroke lead, he overcame an opening bogey with a blistering run of five consecutive birdies, highlighted by a 26-foot putt at the third.

Late bogeys on 16 and 17 couldn't derail his march to glory, as Young calmly tapped in for par on 18 to seal a 22-under total of 258 at Sedgefield Country Club in Greensboro, North Carolina.

"I've been waiting for it for awhile," Young said. "I never thought I'd really be that emotional about it, but it's the end of my fourth season and I've had my chances. Never quite like this - and I wasn't going to let it get away from me today."

Young also hoped the win would put him on US Ryder Cup captain Keegan Bradley's radar ahead of September’s showdown with Europe.

"Obviously that team is a goal of many of us," he added.

Mac Meissner carded a 66 to finish second at 16-under, while Sweden’s Alex Noren and American Mark Hubbard shared third on 15-under. Amateur Jackson Koivun tied for fifth with Chris Kirk and England’s Aaron Rai at 14-under.

Sunday's finale concluded the PGA Tour’s regular season, with the top 70 in the FedEx Cup standings advancing to next week’s St. Jude Championship. Kirk’s top-five finish was enough to bump him from 73rd to 61st, securing his playoff spot.
