Antoine Dupont becomes world's most expensive rugby player with monster Toulouse deal

While the exact monetary value of Dupont’s contract extension is under wraps, it is reportedly around the $1.5 million per season mark, eclipsing a recent deal signed by All Black Ricke Mo'unga in Japan. Toulouse's move to secure their megastar comes off the back of rumours that the rebel R360 league could entice some of the world's elite players.

“Antoine Dupont extends his adventure with Stade Toulousain until 2031,” read the club’s colourful statement in part.

“His contract extension symbolises loyalty, passion and shared ambition. Antoine Dupont and Stade Toulousain are writing a unique story together. A story of transmission and excellence resolutely focused on the future.”

Dupont's story with Toulouse began in 2017. Since, the nuggety scrumhalf has helped them to two Champions Cup titles and five Top 14 crowns in the French league.

“Wearing the Stade Toulousain jersey is a childhood dream come true, a real dream come true!" said the 28-year-old on the socials over the weekend.

"I miss you all so much. Next time we see each other, I hope I’ll have my cleats on."

The 2021 World Rugby Player of the Year has been out of action since March. He ruptured his ACL against Ireland in round 4 of France's successful Six Nations campaign.
