Bryan Mbeumo faces crucial decision ahead of AFCON 2025 call-up

Bryan Mbeumo faces crucial decision ahead of AFCON 2025 call-up

The 26-year-old winger has been one of United's standout performers this season, making a seamless transition following his 65 million pound move from Brentford. With four goals and an assist in 10 league appearances, Mbeumo has become a central figure in Ruben Amorim's revitalised side, even earning the Premier League Player of the Month award for October.

However, his brilliant form also makes him indispensable to Cameroon, who will name their final AFCON squad in the coming weeks.

The tournament, scheduled to kick off on December 21 in Morocco, clashes with key fixtures in United's festive schedule, including matches against Bournemouth and Aston Villa.

According to reports in The Sun, Manchester United are set to request that the Cameroon Football Federation, led by Samuel Eto'o, allow Mbeumo to remain in England for those matches before linking up with the Indomitable Lions.

FIFA regulations require clubs to release players two weeks before the start of major international tournaments, meaning Mbeumo would normally have to leave after United's game against Wolves on December 8.

The Red Devils' management believe his presence will be vital to maintaining their league momentum, while Cameroon coach Rigobert Song views the forward as essential to his AFCON plans.

For Mbeumo, it's a delicate balancing act. Sources close to the player suggest he is determined to avoid controversy and hopes both parties can find common ground. The winger reportedly wants to “honour his national call-up without letting down his club.”

Cameroon will rely heavily on Mbeumo's creativity and composure as they chase their first continental crown since 2017, while United risk losing one of their most in-form players at a critical time.

As the AFCON countdown continues, all eyes will be on how Mbeumo navigates a decision that could test both his loyalty and leadership — for club and country alike.
