Bulls to receive Springbok coaching support under SA Rugby collaboration

Springbok assistant coaches Felix Jones and Jerry Flannery, SA Rugby Mobi-Unit coach Duane Vermeulen and Head of Athletic Performance Andy Edwards will offer short-term support to the Bulls after the franchise asked for help in a few specific technical areas.

The request comes at a challenging time for the Pretoria side, who have lost their last five matches across all competitions and six of their last seven under new coach Johan Ackermann.

The request was approved by SA Rugby and the Springbok management as part of the ongoing cooperation between the Springboks and the provincial teams.

The Bok coaches will work with the Bulls on a limited basis, both remotely and in person where needed, sharing insight and experience rather than stepping into any formal roles.

Springbok coach Rassie Erasmus said it was simply an extension of the close working relationship that already exists between the Boks and the franchises.

"We're in regular contact with our franchises, and when they ask for input in certain areas, we help where we can within our normal roles," Erasmus said.

"A strong link between the Springboks and the provinces is important, because it ultimately strengthens South African rugby."

SA Rugby CEO Rian Oberholzer echoed that view, saying the aim is always to lift the standard across the board.

"We want all our teams performing at their best, and when a franchise reaches out for assistance, we'll support them where possible," he said.

Importantly, the arrangement is short-term and purely supportive, with no formal appointments involved - just Springbok experience being shared for the good of the game.
