Currie Cup: Cheetahs hold off WP in Bloemfontein, Lions tame Pumas in Nelspruit

Cheetahs hang on for victory despite WP fightback

The Cheetahs secured a 31-24 bonus-point victory at the Toyota Stadium against Western Province despite a late surge from the visitors.

The home side opened the scoring through wing Cohen Jasper and added further tries with Banie Britz, lock Juan Venter and No 8 Neels Volschenk going over.

WP looked dead and buried at 31-10 down going into teh final 20 minutes and fought back with tries by replacements Jared Africa and Enos Ndiao but its was ultimately not enough.

Lions' second-half surge tames Pumas

The Lions beat the Pumas 36-28 at the Mbombela Stadium after the teams went into the break with the score at 21 apiece.

Kelly Mpeku, Angelo Davids, Renzo du Plessis - with a brace - and Dylan Sjoblom were the try-scorers for visitors while Lubabalo Dobela succeeded with four conversions and a solitary penalty.

Ruwald van der Merwe, Ross Braude, Darren Adonis and Jan-Henning Campher all went over for five-pointers for the Pumas while Danrich Visagie converted all the tries from the kick tee.

It was good bounce back from the Lions after going down to a shock loss against Boland in Wellington last week.
