The 22-year-old Italian centre-back has inked a deal that will keep him at the Stadio Olimpico until June 2030, Roma confirmed in a statement on Saturday.
The transfer, valued at 10.5 million euros with an additional 1 million in performance-related bonuses, was first detailed by Football Italia earlier this week.
Ghilardi, who will don the number 87 shirt, arrives as a promising talent with a proven track record in Serie A, having made 24 appearances for Verona in the 2024-25 season.
"AS Roma are thrilled to welcome Daniele Ghilardi from Hellas Verona," the club announced. "His composure, tactical intelligence, and versatility make him a perfect fit for our defensive setup."
Ghilardi's journey to Roma began in Fiorentina's youth academy, followed by loan spells at Mantova and Sampdoria, before he cemented his place in Verona's backline.
His performances at the 2023 FIFA U-20 World Cup, where Italy reached the final, and the 2025 UEFA U-21 European Championship alongside Roma teammates Tommaso Baldanzi and Niccolo Pisilli, caught the eye of Roma's sporting director, Frederic Massara.
"Ghilardi's ability to read the game and adapt to a high defensive line is exceptional for his age," Massara said. "He's ready to take the next step with us."
Roma's manager, Gian Piero Gasperini, also praised the signing, noting Ghilardi's suitability for his preferred three-man defensive system. "Daniele brings strength and intelligence to our backline," Gasperini said. "His performances at Verona and with Italy's youth teams show he's ready to compete at this level."
The move comes as part of Roma's ambitious summer rebuild, with Ghilardi joining Wesley, Evan Ferguson, Neil El Aynaoui, and Devis Vasquez as new additions.
Ghilardi himself expressed enthusiasm about the move, stating on Roma's official channels, "Joining Roma is a dream come true. I'm ready to give everything for this club and its passionate fans."
With negotiations finalized after weeks of talks, Roma have outmaneuvered interest from Real Betis and other clubs to secure Ghilardi's signature. The deal's structure, complicated by a 50 percent sell-on clause owed to Fiorentina from Verona's 2022 purchase, underscores Roma's determination to strengthen their squad ahead of the 2025-26 Serie A campaign.
As Roma prepare for a competitive season in both domestic and European competitions, Ghilardi's arrival signals their intent to blend youthful energy with tactical discipline, setting the stage for an exciting chapter at the Stadio Olimpico.
