England clinch Women's Rugby World Cup with dominant win over powerhouse Canada

Ranked No. 1 in the world and unbeaten in 32 matches prior to the showpiece, the Red Roses were "third time lucky" after defeats in two previous finals.

Canada, ranked second and unbeaten in 2025 until this match, struck first when Asia Hogan-Rochester capitalised on a turnover to cross in the corner.

England responded swiftly as Ellie Kildunne weaved past defenders for a brilliant solo try, converted by Zoe Harrison.

Momentum swung further in their favour when Amy Cokayne, playing 11 years on from her first World Cup appearance, powered over from a rolling maul.

Alex Matthews then stretched the lead to 21-5 with a try just before half-time, though Sophie de Goede narrowed the gap with a penalty.

A pivotal moment came when Hannah Botterman forced a crucial turnover before the break but was later shown a yellow card for a dangerous tackle.

Canada exploited the advantage, Hogan-Rochester claiming her second try, though the missed conversion left them trailing 26-13.

England, however, would not be denied. Matthews crossed again late on, with Harrison's conversion sealing a famous 33-13 triumph. Cokayne also finished with a brace, underlining England's forward dominance.

As captain Marlie Packer lifted the trophy, England celebrated their first world crown, ending Canada's unbeaten year and affirming their status as the global powerhouse of women's rugby.
