Erik ten Hag considered as Wolves step up manager search

The defeat left Wolves bottom of the Premier League with just two points from 10 games.

Club chiefs Jeff Shi, Dominico Teti, and Matt Jackson are leading the search for a new manager. Sources have told ESPN and Sky Sports that Ten Hag, 55, is open to talks despite concerns about joining a struggling team mid-season. The Dutchman left Bayer Leverkusen in September after only a few matches and is said to be keen on a Premier League return, though Wolves reportedly prefer appointing a younger coach.

Michael Carrick and Rob Edwards are also on the shortlist. Edwards, now at Middlesbrough, previously coached at Wolves and briefly served as interim boss in 2016, but he has distanced himself from leaving his current post.

A potential comeback for former manager Gary O'Neil has also collapsed after he withdrew from negotiations, despite an initial framework being agreed. That decision has delayed Wolves' appointment process ahead of the international break.

The next coach faces major challenges: a thin squad after key exits, limited January transfer funds, and growing unrest among supporters following Pereira's turbulent tenure. Behind the scenes, the influence of agent Jorge Mendes remains present, though the board insists it is united in finding the right candidate to guide the club away from danger.
