Europe's stars set for Ryder Cup reunion at this week's Abu Dhabi HSBC Championship

Eight players who helped Europe secure a dramatic victory in New York last September will compete at Yas Links for the penultimate event of the Race to Dubai, running from November 6 to 9.

Rory McIlroy returns to vie for the Falcon Trophy for the first time since his Masters triumph. Joining him are fellow Team Europe stars Tommy Fleetwood, Shane Lowry, Ludvig Aberg, Matt Fitzpatrick, Tyrrell Hatton, Rasmus Hojgaard, and Robert MacIntyre.

While many familiar faces will be in the field, the stakes remain high in the UAE capital.

The Abu Dhabi tournament marks the opening leg of the season-ending play-offs. The Tour calls this stretch "the final sprint" of the season, though it might better be described as a mid-distance challenge rather than an all-out dash.

Since 2009, top-ranked players have battled for crucial points on the Earth Course, making a final push toward the season's finish line. This year, Yas Links joins the mix with a points boost of its own.

The leading 70 players in the Race to Dubai standings will compete at Yas, with the top 50 after this event advancing to the DP World Tour Championship at Jumeirah Golf Estates.

At stake in Abu Dhabi are 9,000 ranking points, with a further 10,000 available at the season finale. Points are awarded according to finishing positions in each tournament.

Shane Lowry, who has played sparingly on the DP World Tour this season, sits low in the Race to Dubai rankings. Nevertheless, the 2019 Abu Dhabi champion is eligible to return, thanks to his key role in Luke Donald's European Ryder Cup team.

All 2025 Ryder Cup players are exempt for this event and included in the field, alongside the top 70 Race to Dubai contenders. "I'll be giving it everything to finish the year on a high," Lowry said.

Sepp Straka, another Ryder Cup participant, had been expected to take part in the play-offs but withdrew last week due to personal reasons.
