Folarin Balogun on fire: American leads Monaco charge

The 24‑year‑old American scored again in Monaco's 2‑0 Ligue 1 win over Angers, giving his side an early lead before they doubled the advantage.

Balogun's resurgence follows a challenging period that included injuries and spells out of the team. Having joined Monaco in August 2023 on a long‑term deal from Arsenal, he showed early promise but struggled for consistency before this season.

Monaco manager Philippe Clement has backed Balogun to lead the line and has highlighted the striker's work ethic. After a recent victory, Clement said: "Folarin has worked hard and deserved his goals. He gives us real presence in attack and causes problems for defenders."

Balogun himself has been measured in his reaction, focusing on continuous improvement rather than past struggles. "I feel good in the team, and scoring helps the confidence," he said. "The goals are important, but helping the team win is what matters most."

Statistically this season, Balogun has contributed five goals and three assists in Ligue 1 and has been involved regularly, starting most matches in the campaign so far. Across his time at Monaco, he has 16 league goals in 61 appearances.

His recent run includes a crucial winner in the Champions League against Galatasaray, where he scored the only goal in a 1‑0 victory, underlining his ability to make an impact in big games.

For the United States national team, Balogun's club form has strengthened his case as a leading striker option ahead of the 2026 World Cup, which the US will co‑host. With eight goals in 23 international appearances, his blend of movement, finishing and growing confidence could be pivotal for both club and country in the months ahead.
