Former Springbok coach Jake White goes back to school

White was let go by the Bulls last season, but has found pastures new in the Eastern Cape, a hotbed of South African rugby. A former Jeppe High School pupil, White went on to teach and coach rugby at the Johannesburg school.

"I'm excited to see what rugby looks like there now since I started coaching schools rugby years ago," said the 2007 World Cup winner.

"The most important thing is to build on what's already in place. There's an incredible rugby tradition and the catchment area is enormous. The Eastern Cape produces very good rugby players.

"Schoolboy rugby is probably the purest form of the game. It's the traditions, the jerseys, the family support. Everyone wants to be part of it."

White has a storied coaching career, having plied his trade in Australia with the Brumbies, Montpellier in France and Toyota Verblitz in Japan.
