Gonzalo Garcia credits Xabi Alonso's mentoring for his rise at Real Madrid

The 21-year-old forward impressed during the FIFA Club World Cup and Real's summer tour of the United States, convincing Xabi Alonso to hand him a permanent place in the senior squad.

Garcia has also been rewarded with a new contract, underlining the club's belief in his potential. Speaking about Alonso's impact on his development, Garcia said he had been encouraged to play with freedom and intensity.

"The coach always gives me peace of mind and confidence," Garcia said. "He told me to be confident, to press well, to bother the centre-backs so that they couldn't come out with the ball, and when we had it to try to fix them. Inside the box, we have to take any chance that comes to score."

The young striker admitted that training alongside established stars has been a big step, but one he has embraced.

"You go from playing for Castilla and watching your idols on TV to sharing a dressing room with them," Garcia said. "At first it impresses you, but then you get used to it. I am very grateful to be able to train and play with the best players in the world."

Garcia is currently away with Spain's under-21s but has made it clear that he is already targeting a place in the senior squad for the 2026 World Cup.

"I know there is a possibility and for me it is a dream," he added. "If I haven't gone now, it means I need to work harder and earn that spot. My ambition is always maximum. To represent my country in a World Cup is what every player dreams of."

Real Madrid have a strong record of promoting young talent, with players such as Raul, Iker Casillas and most recently Fran Garcia making the step from La Fabrica to the first team. Supporters will hope Garcia can follow in their footsteps and become another home-grown star to lead the line at the Santiago Bernabeu.
