Hamburg's Philip Otele delighted after making Nigeria debut

The Basel loanee made his first appearance for the Super Eagles after having missed out on the 2025 African Cup of Nations final squad, replacing Frank Onyeka in the final minutes of the stalemate in Turkey.

"For me, it was a dream come true," said the 26-year-old to the media.

"We always play football to represent the national team, so I always wanted to play for Nigeria, and it was a big moment for me and my family.

"I am proud of this moment. As a player, when you play for your national team, it gives you that extra boost, and it also means a lot in general because of the tournaments you get to play with the national team.

Otele joined Emmanuel Fernandez and Yira Sor as debutants during the camp in Antalya where Nigeria defeated Iran 2-1 last week before the clash with Jordan.

"Being here is a huge thing for me because I am a patriotic fan, and I have been following the team for a long time."
