Joan Laporta confirms Anthony Gordon's Barcelona deal 'almost' complete

Joan Laporta confirms Anthony Gordon's Barcelona deal 'almost' complete

Reports on Wednesday revealed Barcelona had submitted a formal offer worth around eighty million euros, which is approximately sixty-nine point three million pounds, for the England international. Newcastle are understood to have accepted the bid, clearing the way for Gordon to travel to Barcelona on Thursday for a medical and to finalise the transfer.

Transfer expert David Ornstein reported that the agreement includes a structured package with a sell-on clause, alongside the main fee.

Laporta publicly addressed the situation for the first time, making it clear the deal is close but not fully complete.

"The Gordon deal is being done but it is not completed yet. I have already been informed about everything," Laporta said.

There has been some confusion over the exact structure of the fee. Spanish reports suggest the deal is made up of around seventy million euros up front, roughly sixty point six million pounds, plus up to ten million euros in add-ons, bringing the total value to around eighty million euros, or sixty-nine point three million pounds. This differs slightly from some English reports that suggested a flat fee with additional clauses on top.

Behind the scenes, Barcelona sporting director Deco is understood to have met Newcastle officials in London this week to help push negotiations over the line.

Both Gordon and Newcastle are believed to have been keen to resolve the situation quickly, with the England squad set to begin their 2026 World Cup preparation camp shortly. That urgency appears to have helped accelerate the agreement.

For Newcastle, the timing of the sale could also strengthen their planning for the next transfer window, giving them greater flexibility and early control in the market as they prepare for squad rebuilding.
