Joshua Kimmich: Time for Bayern to break Real's Champions League dominance

Speaking ahead of the quarter-final first leg, Kimmich did not hold back on the scale of the occasion. "It's something special to play against Real. Bayern and Real are the biggest clubs in the world," he said.

The German midfielder admitted that while Bayern approach every match with focus, this tie carries extra weight. "Our coach doesn't make much distinction between games, but we all feel that a quarter-final against Real is very special. You really look forward to it," he explained.

Kimmich also reflected on his personal connection to the famous stadium. "I came here once as a kid and visited the stadium, even without a game. Even then, I could see how massive it is. You train every day for moments like this. I hope we deliver a good performance."

Recent history has not favoured Bayern. The German side are winless in their last eight Champions League meetings with Real Madrid, a run Kimmich is eager to end. "We've been knocked out here every time in recent years, but the circumstances were always different," he said.

"Tomorrow won't decide everything, but we're really looking forward to it."

Kimmich made it clear that Bayern will not abandon their identity despite the challenge. "In every game, we want to impose our style. Real are unique – they can create danger from any situation. It will be crucial to bring our strengths onto the pitch. Of course, we'll adapt slightly, but we want to play our own game."

With the second leg still to come, Bayern know a strong performance in Madrid could shape the tie - and Kimmich's words showed they are ready for the fight.
