Lions romp past Edinburgh at Ellis Park to maintain URC momentum

From the outset, the Lions set the tone. Ruan Venter crossed for the opening try in the sixth minute after a smart counter-attack, with Chris Smith adding the conversion.

Franco Horn scored a second try shortly after from the back of a maul before Darien-Lane Landsberg added a third within minutes to extend the hosts' lead to 21-0 by the 21st minute.

Lions fans did not have to wait long for try number four, as captain Morne van den Berg crashed over in his 100th game, with inside centre Bronson Mills making it five on the stroke of half-time to all but kill off the contest and give the hosts a 35-0 lead heading into the break.

Edinburgh were better in the second half as the Lions took their foot off the gas somewhat.

Ewan Ashman, Freddy Douglas and Matt Currie all got on the scoreboard for the visitors, although the home side continued to keep them at bay thanks to a brace of tries from winger Angelo Davids and a late five-pointer from former Junior Bok star Haashim Pead to bring up the Lions' half-century and send them back into the URC top eight and keep them firmly in the hunt for a playoff spot.
