Returning Bok behemoth Jasper Wiese ready to unleash against All Blacks
Springbok No.8 Jasper Wiese is champing at the bit to have a run at the mighty All Blacks in Wellington on Saturday.
The 28-year-old Scarlets hooker earned his first Bok appearance off the bench in July's non-cap clash with the Barbarians, before making his Test debut against Georgia in the No. 2 jersey.
He featured as a replacement in the victory over the Wallabies in Cape Town and will again play an impact role at the Cake Tin this weekend as the Boks aim to rebound from their 24-17 loss in Auckland.
South Africa struggled at the set piece at Eden Park, losing four of their 18 lineouts, and sit at just 79% after three rounds of the Rugby Championship with 34 wins from 43 throw-ins.
While starting hooker Malcolm Marx has accepted responsibility for the inconsistency, Van der Merwe insists the issue has been addressed collectively in training this week.
"We looked at the video to see where we went wrong," he told the media on Thursday. "They played their tricks very well with what they did [to disrupt the Bok lineout], and we have planned how we are going to stop it and how we are going to make them make more errors."
Van der Merwe is relishing the chance to face the All Blacks for the first time in his career and said he was looking forward to the challenge.
"It's going to be lekker. I'm excited and a bit nervous, but you want to play against the best to become a better player, and they are No 1 [in the rankings] at the moment."
