Nicolas Jackson ban extended by FIFA for serious foul play

The Chelsea striker was dismissed after 68 minutes for a reckless challenge shortly after coming on as a second-half substitute.

The English Premier League side kicked off their tournament campaign with a 2-0 victory over LAFC with goals from Pedro Neto and Enzo Hernandez.

After losing to the Brazilians, the Blues then sealed a last 16 match-up against Portuguese side Benfica, after a comfortable 3-0 win over Esperance on Tuesday.

The Senegal forward missed the final group game but will now also be excluded from the last 16 tie after FIFA disciplinary committee reviewed and extended the ban.

The dismissal was Jackson's second in four matches. He is also suspended from play in the Premier League.
