Pirates' Tshegofatso Mabasa seen as ideal solution to Kaizer Chiefs' goal-scoring woes

With Orlando Pirates striker Tshegofatso Mabasa facing an uncertain future at the Buccaneers, Amakhosi have been urged to act decisively and bring the proven finisher to Naturena.

Mabasa has found game time limited under Pirates head coach Abdeslam Ouaddou, sparking speculation over a potential move away from the club. With the 29-year-old's contract set to expire in June, Chiefs could be in line to secure his services on a free transfer as early as January, while Mamelodi Sundowns have also been linked with the striker.

Mkhize, who donned the colours of both Chiefs and Pirates during his playing career, feels Mabasa would flourish in Amakhosi's setup, particularly given their ongoing struggles in front of goal.

"Mabasa is a player I still need at Pirates, but the coach believes otherwise. So a move to Kaizer Chiefs would be the best move of his football career. Chiefs need a target man and a finisher like Mabasa upfront," he told KickOff.com.

The retired striker believes Mabasa offers qualities that Chiefs' current attacking options lack. While acknowledging the presence of Flavio Da Silva, Mkhize suggested the Pirates forward is better suited to lead the line at Naturena and praised his work rate and intelligence in the penalty area.

"Mabasa will fit in perfectly at Kaizer Chiefs because the football they are playing does not differ much from what Pirates play. He has goals in him, and Chiefs need goals," he said.

"He is a true striker who doesn't just score goals but also provides assists. That's why there are always questions about his absence from the national team."

According to Mkhize, should Mabasa complete the controversial move across Soweto, it could prove to be a defining piece of business. "Pirates' loss would be Kaizer Chiefs' gain," he concluded.
