Pitso Mosimane details key Bafana Bafana objectives following head coach appointment

The former Mamelodi Sundowns head coach returns to the position for a second stint after previously taking charge of the team for two years from 2010 to 2012.

Mosimane took over from Carlos Alberto Parreira after the World Cup and was unable to steer his team to the 2012 Africa Cup of Nations.

But the 62-year-old arrives in his new post a vastly more experienced coach and intends to build on the impressive work done with the national team by former mentor Hugo Broos.

The Belgian led Bafana to third place at the 2023 AFCON and to the Round of 16 last year before a historic run to the second round of the World Cup in the United States, Canada and Mexico.

Speaking at his unveiling, Mosimane said: "We have to do better than what we have done in the last AFCON.

"We have to move for better than what we have done in the AFCON. We have to move much better in the World Cup.

"It's possible, and I think you agree that we might have had the chance to can move further in the World Cup, right? So those are the key objectives."

Mosimane added that he is far more prepared now for the post than he was all those years ago.

“Between the time I was here and 14 years back there's a lot that has happened," he said.

"Remember 14 years back I didn't win even the MTN8 Cup or Nedbank Cup never mind any league or been to a … I don't want to be boasting about what we have achieved.

“I think it's been a long journey and I'll say there's 21 medals in between now and 14 years back, loaded with about four FIFA World Cups, three in club and one in national team. I don't want to be mentioning a lot of accolades, but I think the system is loaded enough now.”
