Premier League wrap: Tottenham sink deeper into trouble, Aston Villa boost European push

Tottenham 0-3 Nottingham Forest

Tottenham's relegation fears deepened as a punishing 3-0 home defeat to Nottingham Forest wiped out any momentum from the past week and left Igor Tudor's side hovering just above the drop zone.

There had been cautious optimism after a point at Anfield and a 3-2 win over Atletico Madrid, but that progress unravelled against a Forest side also battling for survival.

The hosts started brightly, striking the woodwork twice and controlling the early tempo, yet their finishing let them down, with Richarlison missing their clearest chance.

Forest stayed composed and struck at a crucial moment when Igor Jesus headed home from a corner in first-half stoppage time, shifting the momentum firmly in the visitors' favour.

Spurs' confidence faded after the break, and Morgan Gibbs-White doubled Forest's lead just after the hour, his effort slipping through Guglielmo Vicario.

Any hopes of a comeback quickly disappeared as Tottenham's attack lost cohesion, and substitute Taiwo Awoniyi added a late third to seal a comprehensive victory.

The result lifts Nottingham Forest to 16th, easing their relegation concerns, while Tottenham drop to 17th, just a point above the bottom three with seven games remaining.

Tudor, now with five defeats in seven matches, faces mounting pressure as Spurs' poor run continues at a critical stage of the season.

Aston Villa 2-0 West Ham

Aston Villa reignited their Champions League push with a controlled 2-0 victory over struggling West Ham at Villa Park.

The result marked a sharp turnaround after a poor domestic spell, with Unai Emery's side having taken just nine points from their previous ten Premier League matches and suffered three straight defeats.

Fresh from reaching a Europa League quarter-final, they showed renewed intensity and purpose from the outset.

Villa took control early and were rewarded in the 15th minute when John McGinn curled home from the edge of the area after a clever set-piece routine.

West Ham struggled to build momentum, while Villa created further openings without fully extending their lead before half-time.

After the break, West Ham offered a slight improvement but lacked quality in the final third, with Villa comfortably managing the game and limiting clear chances.

The second goal arrived in the 68th minute when Morgan Rogers' effort was parried into danger and finished from close range, effectively sealing the contest.

For West Ham, it was another damaging defeat in their fight to avoid relegation, with inconsistent performances continuing to leave them embroiled in a tense battle near the bottom of the table.
