Royal Challengers Bengaluru break trophy drought to be crowned IPL champions

After many near misses since the inception of the T20 franchise tournament in 2008, RCB finally have their hands on the trophy.

India legend Virat Kohli, who has been at RCB for all 18 years, was seen in tears when the final ball was bowled and entered into a warm embrace with his teammates.

It was the 36-year-old Kohli who top-scored with 43 from 35 balls as RCB posted a total of 190-9 in their 20 overs after being put in to bat first at the toss.

There were important and solid contributions throughout RCB's batting order with Mayank Agarwal (24), captain Rajat Patidar (26), Liam Livingstone (25), Jitesh Sharma (24) and Romario Shepherd (17) getting runs.

The Punjab Kings put in a decent enough bowling performance to restrict their opponents to a par total with pace duo Arshdeep Singh and Kyle Jamieson both taking three wickets.

Punjab then got off to good start in the run-chase with openers Priyash Arya (24) and Prabhsimran Singh (26) putting on 43 in the first five overs while Australian number three Josh Inglis made 39 off 23 deliveries.

The game though turned RCB's way with the introduction of left-arm spinner Krunal Pandya as the slow-bowler took 2-17 in his four overs to swing the momentum back in his team's favour and they never looked back.

Shashank Singh, batting at number six, desperately tried to keep Punjab in the game with a valiant 61 not out off 30 balls but his team fell just short as they ended on 184-7.
